Since Tom just returned hometown, he knew others repelled him because he was thought to be an outlander. Though he performed better than other children around and looked cleverer, Tom was not accepted. Even his cousins felt it disgracing to stay and play games with him. Till he grows up a little, nothing changes that he still has to be alone. Tom knows that he is fat and short. A boy who wears eyeglass like him will never be center of the multitude. He has ever tried to join others and been part of them, but he fails time after time. Then he becomes diffident and refuses to communicate with everyone else. Even in class, he nearly never answers any teacher’s questions. Gradually, the only characteristic other people remember about him is his stupid eyeglasses. And he owns a nickname -“Famute”.
Thing turns to change when Jenny transfers to Tom’s school and became his classmate. Such a pretty and cute girl is always surrounded by people, which is completely opposite of the condition where Tom locates. She raps Tom’s top place at the first examination and behaves very high-sounding. Tom acts like he doesn’t care while he feels uncomfortable in reality. He works harder than ever and makes up his mind to seize back his top place. However, what Jenny cares most is how to keep her place. Then in the next several tests, they win first prize in turn and no one can join them. The other entire classmates feel confused that why they two compete so serious and the prevenient “Famute” turns willing to communicate with teachers and discuss with classmates except Jenny.
The competition ends with Jenny’s transferring to other school for study. Tom feels lost for certain time. Before long, Tom receives a letter from a school hundreds of miles far from his city. It’s from Jenny. It reads, “Dear Tom, though we never chat with each other, I am aware of you experience. I know who you are; I know what you feel like; I know what you want to be and I know how hard you work. What I have met with is similar with yours. I was jealous of by others because of my appearance and intelligence. I feel aggrieved. However, competing with you makes my life a little colorful. And I find that you have changed a little.……I am really honorable to be classmates with you and may you a shining future! PS: You looked like a doctor when you wear eyeglasses”.
Tom reads over the letter and takes a deep breath, adjusting his new eyeglasses bought at www.prescriptionglassesonline.net and then return to his seat.
